Top of the pops

MTV TOP 10 MCs

(I don't like rankings, I like lyrics....with meaning)

#1 Jay-Z
Probably the favorite rapper of many hip-hop fans this generation, but despite the sales of the album that was released this year, very few people think he made a greatest impact on hip-hop this year or produced a legendary album.

#2 Lil Wayne
Definitely the most prolific rapper of the last year. Know for his amazing lyrical imagery and his unique autotune singing. He should be dropped by a few spots, because he thought he could be rock star...literally. lol

#3 Drake
He raps and he sings...yes that was a reference to Lil Wayne and autotune. He is unofficially labeled as the favorite new artist of the year, but despite his ability to be duel talented, he hasn't stood out on verses with other successful rappers.

#4 Kanye West
Hella cocky, so you know he thinks he deserves to be on top of the list. However, he showed his ability to produce almost an entire record for Jay-Z and he delivered the best verse on several songs with top rappers.

#5 Rick Ross
I don't know and I haven't made an effort to find out.

#6 Gucci Mane
IGNORANCE.
Not close to a MC.

#7 Young Jeezy
I don't know and I haven't made an effort to find out.
Yes, he made a song about Barack Obama, but it was far from a reputable endorsement like the songs done by other musicians.

#8 Fabolous
Fix your teeth and learn how to spell your own name right and then we'll talk.
But seriously, his most recent release had a lot of hype, but I'm too smart to believe in hype especially from an artist who musically burned me in the past.

#9 50 Cent
All the ego and half the talent.

#10 Raekwon he Chef
Ranked #1 on itunes when Jay-Z released his album. However, Jay-Z ranks at the very top of this list and Raekwon is #10, I don't get it.
He was in Wu-Tang and when stands alone he earned an impressive 8.8 from Pitchfork.

The Hova, The Collabs, and The Mr. Do-It-Alls

HOVA IS BACK!
The man who is commonly claimed to be one of the greatest rappers alive has released the first single for his upcoming album, The Blueprint³ . This will be his eleventh studio and it will be released on September 11, which is the same date of the release of the first album of the Blueprint chronicles. The new album will contain the charttopping singles Swagga Like Us and Brooklyn Go Hard. Kanye West will help produce The Blueprint³ and has said it will sound like 808s and Heartbreaks, but no autotune will be on Jay-Z's album. This was made very apparent on Jay-Z's first single Dead, which was released on Hot 97 this past Friday. In the song he attacks the prevalence of autotune in rap songs as well as "ringtone rappers", rappers who sing, tight jeans, and colored jeans. After such a song that calls out a lot of the changes in the hip-hop industry, I am unsure if he he is asking Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy to be on the remix of this song or if he is suggesting that they should change their behavior. I also was confused that Jay-Z confronted autotune and skinny jeans, which are two of Kanye West's trademarks, even though Kanye produced this song.

Has Jay-Z made a song that will be appreciated by the hood and suburbia?
Has Jay-Z changed since the first Blueprint album?
Is autotune an actual problem in hip-hop music?
Does skinny jeans affect your credibility as a rapper or are skills the only factor?

The Mr. Do-It-Alls of DG Entertainment
In New Orleans, Blair Taylor is definitely a well known guy for those who are in the music industry. He has worked with great artists like G-Eazy, Rantz and 3rd-Shift. Another New Orleans crooner is Yuri, who is also an accomplished song writer for R&B musicians and combines R&B, hip-hop, electro and alternative music in his songs.
