Kid Cudi and The Pappers At Nite

The music video for Kid Cudi's upcoming single 'Heaven at Nite' was leaked online on June 6thLink and was quickly removed from Youtube. However the video can still be seen on an Imeem, it was directed by Va$htie Kola and the video is a party scene that is reminiscent of Hollywood Holt's video for his song 'Hollywood'. It features many cameos including The Retro Kidz and Team Facelift

As of now it is not planned on being on his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, which will be released on August 25th. The song however was on his mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi. The song 'Heaven at Nite' uses the beat from Ratatat's 'Tacobel Canon'. Despite the brief release of 'Heaven at Nite', Kid Cudi's next single will be 'Make Her Say'. Kid Cudi fans were introduced to the song 'Poke Her Face' which features Kanye West and Common, and samples Lady Gaga's 'Poke Her Face' this past April. 'Make Her Say' is the same song as 'Poke Her Face', but had the name was changed to make it more pleasing for radio listeners. Kid Cudi's third single will be 'Sky Might Fall' and it is featured on his mixtape, Dat Kid From Cleveland, along with 'Make Her Say'.

Kid Cudi is officially a celebrity now, the papperazi are following him now, its not TMZ, but it's something. Apparently he parties with Apple from Black Eyed Peas (the guy with the mohawk), he only has nice words to say about Kanye, and he wants his own cartoon.

pretentious music elitst

I do not want to come off as one of those music snobs, who gets mad as soon as a less known artist gets played on an itunes commercial, Gray's Anatomy, Gossip Girl, The Hills ect. I buy music and attend several concert in an attempt to support artists, therefore I also relish in their 'mainstream' success. No true music fan should want their favorite artist to stay obscure. Even though many musicians claim that the size of their fan base doesn't matter as long as they get their message out; one should not discourage musical awareness.

However, I am unhappy when an artist is featured in a commercial or tv show and people really like the song, but refuse to make any effort to listen to any of their other songs. I cannot count the number of times I have had to quote a lyric of a song, because a person did not know actual the name of the artist or at least the name of the song. Many bands and singers have been performing for many years and have had a least a decent following before their exposure in an ad. Nowadays, there is a issue if fame is equivalent to having your single known by your mom, little sister and friend, or if success is truly achieved when you have a loyal fan base. Once again, I do not think everyone should attempt to be an music aficionado, but people should think before they claim an artist or band is their favorite, without knowing the basal information about them.

That means:
Kid Cudi is
NOT your favorite hip-hop artist if you only know 'Day n Nite'

You do
NOT listen to "techno" because you know the song 'One More Time' by Daft Punk

You are NOT an old school hip-hop head because you own a DMC shirt

You do NOT listen to "everything" because you like Fall Out Boy and Nirvana

You did NOT listen to that artist first, unless you own their independent released material

Overall, we are all posers to some degree, but we also feel like we are an expert when it come to certain things. Don't feel entitled to jump onto every trend you hear about or claim that you like something, just because your peers are into it.
Feel free to be the lame, the cool kid, the nonconformist, and the maven.

QUESTIONS:
Has an artist has 'sold out' once their song is in a commercial?
Despite itunes sales for a single song, does television exposure help artists?

The Hova, The Collabs, and The Mr. Do-It-Alls

HOVA IS BACK!
The man who is commonly claimed to be one of the greatest rappers alive has released the first single for his upcoming album, The Blueprint³ . This will be his eleventh studio and it will be released on September 11, which is the same date of the release of the first album of the Blueprint chronicles. The new album will contain the charttopping singles Swagga Like Us and Brooklyn Go Hard. Kanye West will help produce The Blueprint³ and has said it will sound like 808s and Heartbreaks, but no autotune will be on Jay-Z's album. This was made very apparent on Jay-Z's first single Dead, which was released on Hot 97 this past Friday. In the song he attacks the prevalence of autotune in rap songs as well as "ringtone rappers", rappers who sing, tight jeans, and colored jeans. After such a song that calls out a lot of the changes in the hip-hop industry, I am unsure if he he is asking Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy to be on the remix of this song or if he is suggesting that they should change their behavior. I also was confused that Jay-Z confronted autotune and skinny jeans, which are two of Kanye West's trademarks, even though Kanye produced this song.

Has Jay-Z made a song that will be appreciated by the hood and suburbia?
Has Jay-Z changed since the first Blueprint album?
Is autotune an actual problem in hip-hop music?
Does skinny jeans affect your credibility as a rapper or are skills the only factor?

In New Orleans, Blair Taylor is definitely a well known guy for those who are in the music industry. He has worked with great artists like G-Eazy, Rantz and 3rd-Shift. Another New Orleans crooner is Yuri, who is also an accomplished song writer for R&B musicians and combines R&B, hip-hop, electro and alternative music in his songs.
